One of my favorite parts of photographing families year after year is scoping out the best locations. I love trying new parks, finding new buildings in Detroit, and finding the areas where the light is perfect. Leave the location work up to me and take a look at some of my current favorite spot to shoot.

Maybury State Park

Perfect for: Everything, but I especially love maternity sessions here!

Maybury State Park is located in Northville and is a beautiful option if you are looking for a wooded photo session. The paths wind through the tall trees, there is uncut, wild grass, open fields, ever changing wildflowers and plenty of trees to catch the fall colors.

Douglas Evans Nature Preserve

Perfect for: Families

Douglas Evans Nature Preserve located in Beverly Hills is perfect for families with little ones. The park is small and easily walkable for little legs, but also gives us plenty of options for unique backdrops. There are open fields, tall grasses, the prettiest wildflowers, a large stone structure and a beautiful bridge. Your kids will love running down the path and exploring the trails across the hills.

Stony Creek Metropark

Perfect for: Engagements, Families and Maternity

You have probably seen some beautiful images taken at Stony Creek Metropark. The park has a grove of giant pine trees that make for a stunning backdrop. The sunset is unbelievable at this location and golden hour sessions in the fields with tall grass and wildflowers are just beautiful. Looking for an option where you can get close to the water- there is a beautiful dock and shoreline along the lake inside the park.

Dunham Lake

Perfect for: Families and Engagements

This one is a family secret! So if we do your session here don’t tell anyone else! My in-laws live on the private lake in Hartland and because you can’t see any houses from the banks of the lake it makes for the perfect option if you are looking for something along the water. There are also trails for a few more wooded images. Also, feel free to use our family rowboat for a super fun or super romantic feel!

Downtown Detroit

Perfect for: Seniors, Families, Engagements

There are so many incredible options downtown Detroit! If you are interested in an urban vibe this is my favorite. Think colorful graffiti, crosswalks with beautiful buildings behind you, and historic architecture. This is also a fun option for a winter shoot- we have great outdoor options and fun spots to check out in coffee shops, building lobbies and parking structures.

Avon Nature Center

Perfect for: Families

Another great option for families this park is located in Rochester Hills. This nature area has so many wonderful options within a short walking distance for little legs. There are beautiful trails, tall trees, wooden stairs and pathways, a winding river and a picturesque wooden bridge. The park is tucked back and hardly used by the public which makes it a great option for children that might be a little nervous if other people are walking around.

Quarton Lake

Perfect for: Families

Looking to be close to the water? Quarton Lake in Birmingham is a beautifully simple option. The park is easily accessible and has a gorgeous path that winds along the river. There are tall pine trees and beautiful overhanging trees. If you are looking for something to keep your sessions totally simple and beautiful at the same time this is it!
